To facilitate planned watermain maintenance, westbound traffic on Hamilton Avenue will be detoured via Bennett Avenue from August 13, 2026 to September 4, 2026. Eastbound traffic will not be impacted.
Memorial University will be conducting scheduled maintenance on its tunnel system. To facilitate this work, traffic pattern changes will be in effect on Prince Philip Drive beginning Monday, August 10. It is expected this work will be completed by the end of August.
Contractors may be working on the following streets from August 10 to 15 under the City’s annual streets rehabilitation and infrastructure maintenance programs. Work could include concrete/street excavation, concrete work, paving, heater scarifying, utility adjustment, ditch cleaning and culvert installation. Commuters may experience traffic delays in these areas.
Starting Wednesday August 5, there will be temporary lane closures on Portugal Cove Road near the intersection of Macdonald Drive and Prince Philip Drive to facilitate work on the Crosstown Shared-Use Path project. Work is anticipated to take approximately two weeks.
The City of St. John’s is announcing the start of the Kelsey Drive and Thorburn Road/Goldstone Street Intersection Improvements Project, which is intended to improve traffic flow and enhance vehicle and pedestrian safety in this busy commercial area.
To help residents stay informed about road maintenance activities, the City will provide updates on pavement marking work planned in higher traffic areas.

The City of St. John’s is advancing the development of the Crosstown Shared-Use Path (SUP), with construction on the section between Canada Drive and Waterford Bridge Road beginning Monday, August 3. Work is expected to continue through December 2026.
