Contractors may be working on the numerous streets from August 30 to September 5 under the City’s annual streets rehabilitation and infrastructure maintenance programs. Work could include concrete/street excavation, concrete work, paving, heater scarifying, utility adjustment, ditch cleaning and culvert installation.
To facilitate construction of a shared-use path and related road rehabilitation, Canada Drive will be closed between Renews Street and Cowan Avenue from Monday, August 31 to Friday, September 4.
To facilitate storm sewer and shared-use path upgrades on Whiteway Street, Guy Street will be reduced to one alternating lane near the intersection from 7 a.m. Friday, August 28 to 5:30 p.m. Saturday, August 29.
To facilitate rehabilitation of the Freshwater Road/Empire Avenue intersection, there will be traffic impacts on Freshwater Road and Empire Avenue from Thursday, August 27 to Sunday, August 30.
To help residents stay informed about road maintenance activities, the City will provide updates on pavement marking work planned in higher traffic areas.
The City of St. John’s wishes to advise residents that work to connect the Grand Concourse Virginia Trail from Durness Street to McNiven Street will begin the week of August 24.

Commuters may experience traffic delays in these areas.

Starting Monday, August 17, underground infrastructure work for the Goulds Fire Station will take place near the construction site. Motorists travelling on the Main Road may experience brief delays as traffic is temporarily shifted around the work area.
Motorists are advised that Linegar Avenue (between the Harry Yetman Shea Heights Park and Horlick Avenue) will be closed to facilitate the Shea Heights Folk Festival. Traffic will be diverted to Horlick Avenue.
